Statements of Faith

As a Church and body of believers :

God

We believe in ONE God, Creator, Sustainer and Ruler of all, who exists as three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Jesus

We believe in Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, fully God and fully man, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary. He was without sin, tempted in every way as we are tempted, subject to suffering, crucified and buried. God raised Him physically from the dead. Risen and ascended, He is alive now, the living Lord. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

Holy Spirit

We believe in the Holy Spirit, who is sent from the Father and the Son. By the Spirit God is present to convict the world of sin and to testify to Christ. By His Spirit God renews, restores, transforms, empowers, teaches, guides, comforts and encourages His people in order to make them like Christ.

The Bible

We believe the Bible is God’s inspired Word. The Scripture is the written witness to Jesus Christ, the living Word. Relying on the Holy Spirit, we seek the application of God’s Word to our lives. The Scriptures are the sufficient and trustworthy standard of Christian faith and practice.

Mankind

We believe that mankind is created by God and in the image of God. We believe the sole purpose of mankind and his chief end, is to Glorify God and enjoy Him forever, this means to know, love, and serve God, putting God first and as our highest ideal. Mankind is also created to be in community to know, love and serve each other.

Sin

We believe that all mankind is born with biases away from obeying God and towards self-gratification and self-glorification, missing God’s requirement of perfection. The Bible calls this sin. Sin pollutes our minds and souls separating us from God and from the life He has for us. Sin not only destroys our relationship with God but our relationship with our neighbour also, driving us to trust in our own goodness and knowledge for life and not in God.

Salvation

We believe that salvation and forgiveness of sin is found in Jesus alone. We believe that God demonstrated His love for us in this that while we were still sinners Christ died for us. Therefore, it is only by Christ’s shed blood on the cross that we are forgiven. We believe in the physical resurrection of Christ offering hope and joy, not just for this life but for the life to come. Salvation by God’s grace is received through faith in Jesus Christ, as Saviour and Lord. Salvation restores our relationships with God and or neighbours, creating peace with God, with others and with ourselves.

The Church

We believe the Church is a community of people who have responded in faith to God’s call and have received Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour by the indwelling and recreating presence and work of the Holy Spirit. We believe the Church is God’s people called both to worship and serve Him in all of life. The Church is a united community, loved by one Father, anointed by one Spirit, ruled by one Head, Jesus Christ. The Church is a universal community, enjoyed by all those who placed their trust in Jesus Christ. The Church is an apostolic community, founded on Christ, the apostles and prophets and entrusted with their teachings.

Ordinances

We believe there are two ordinances for the Church:

a) Baptism. The believer’s response of repentance and faith towards God is expressed in the rite of believer’s baptism usually by immersion. Baptism symbolizes the believer’s union with Christ, experienced by the belief that they have died to sin and their past life in Christ , dying with him, that they have been buried with him and are raised to newness of life.

b) The Lord’s Supper. In the Lord’s Supper the bread represents the broken body of Christ and the wine represents the shed blood of Christ. In this repeated ordinance the believer remembers the price Jesus paid for our salvation in the receiving of the bread and wine.

The Christian Life

We believe the Christian is to live in the context of community, entering into fellowship of the Church, caring for family and community. The believer seeks to live for God by participating in public worship, fellowship, witness and service. We believe the Christian’s initial step of repentance and faith is the beginning of a lifelong journey of turning away from sin trusting in Christ and looking for and expecting the sure and certain hope of Christ’s return for His church.

Ministry

We believe that the ministry of the church, in all its forms, is the ministry of the risen Lord Jesus among and through His people by the power of the Holy Spirit. Ministry is both a privilege and a responsibility of every believer.

Ministry is directed towards both the church, the community of believers and the world. The function or goal of ministry is twofold (1) for the building up the body of Christ, the church and (2) the extension and furthering of God’s kingdom.

End Times

We believe that Jesus Christ will come again. The Second coming of Christ or Second Advent of Christ will result in the resurrection and judgement of all people. The wicked will suffer eternal punishment in the absence of God. The righteous will enjoy eternal life in the presence of God. The Second Advent of Christ will bring about the fulfilment and establishment of the Kingdom of God in a new heaven and a new earth.
